Google’s Top 5 SEO ToolsGoogle’s Top 5 SEO Tools

Google’s Top 5 SEO ToolsGoogle’s Top 5 SEO Tools

1. Chrome Lighthouse

Lighthouse is a “lite” version of a site review tool. It currently provides feedback on ten SEO metrics.  The Lighthouse SEO tool can also be downloaded and installed in Chrome as an extension  Lighthouse is limited in scope but it provides a snapshot of ten metrics that matter to Google.
Ten Metrics Chrome Lighthouse Currently Reports On:

    Viewport Meta Tag
    Title Element
    Meta Description
    HTTP Status Code
    Descriptive Text on Links
Page Status for Successful Crawling & Indexing
    Validates Hreflang
    Validates rel=canonical
Validates font legibility for mobile devices
Checks if document avoids browser plugins for viewing

Why You Should Use Lighthouse SEO Tool

It’s easy to dismiss Chrome Lighthouse as a lightweight site review tool. I won’t deny it, Lighthouse is a lightweight site review tool. But, it’s an important site review tool because it represents Google’s opinion of ten metrics you should be looking at. If Google feels that these metrics are important, then you should too.
2. TestMySite

This site auditing tool offers two metrics:

Estimated loading time on a 3G mobile network
Estimated visitor loss due to poor loading time.

This is a good tool for obtaining a quick snapshot of the speed health of a website. It’s a good starting point metric.

The tool also offers to email a full report containing suggestions for speeding up your specific web page. But it also requires signing up for a newsletter.
Why You Should Use TestMySite

You can obtain the same information by using the Page Speed Insights too. Nevertheless, the TestMySite tool is a great shortcut for getting a thumbnail overview of a web page’s speed. If you want granular details about what needs fixing, then head over to Google’s Page Speed Insights.
3. Page Speed Insights

This online tool provides a score and offers specific tips for speeding up a web page. It tells you which scripts and style sheets are slowing down your site, which images are too big, and offers many other tips for speeding up your web pages.
Why You Should Use Page Speed Insights

Page Speed Insights not only offers useful solutions for hidden technical issues impacting page speed. It is also a resource for learning what those issues are. Each highlighted issue links to a Google Developers page that offers in depth information.
4. Safe Browsing Test

This tool tests if there is any malware on a site. However… an interesting thing about this tool is that it also reveals the last date a site was tested. I don’t know what the criteria is for how often a site is tested. Some sites are tested more often than others.

Presumably the last date of testing is based on some metric of importance. I suspect it may have something to do with how often a site is updated which in turn may influence how often a site is crawled.
Why You Should Use the Safe Browsing Test Tool

I wouldn’t worry if your site hasn’t been updated lately and the date corresponds to the last time the site was updated.  But the tool does provide valuable information about whether it’s hosting malware and may give an indication of how often the site is updated and crawled.
5. Google Trends

Google Trends provides information about keyword popularity and also segments the information by time and geography.

The time segment can give you an idea of how seasons may affect keywords. It can also show you if a keyword is losing popularity. If you see a downward trend in a keyword, this could indicate that a product or trend is causing searchers to lose interest in that search.
Why You Should Use Google Trends

Google Trends is also important for competitive research. It shows you how often people are searching Google with a competitor’s brand name. The trend line by time will show you how steady this trend is, if it’s going up, down or steady.

Obviously, a competitor trend line that is trending down is good. A trend line that is trending up is bad. A trend line that is steady (the most common) means a competitor is doing well and you’ll have to identify their weaknesses and make those your strengths- among many considerations.

Week 26: Five things we learned in the Premier League

Leaders Chelsea underlined their title credentials by brushing aside Swansea, while Harry Kane showcased his predatory finishing for second placed Tottenham and Crystal Palace secured a priceless win in the relegation dogfight.
Here are five things we learned in the Premier League this weekend:

No wobble for nerveless Chelsea

Rocked by Fernando Llorente’s unexpected equaliser on the stroke of half-time, Chelsea were suddenly facing the first serious test of their mettle for months — their response was emphatic and no doubt dispiriting to their title rivals. After a disappointing draw with Burnley in their previous outing, the runaway leaders looked shocked to be pegged back after dominating the first half at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Cesc Fabregas had marked his 300th Premier League appearance with a cool finish in the 19th minute, but Llorente’s header after sloppy marking from Victor Moses raised questions about Chelsea’s focus. But if Antonio Conte was worried that a lack of pressure from their top four challengers had dimmed his players’ desire, he need not have fretted. Pedro restored Chelsea’s lead after a sustained spell of pressure and Diego Costa wrapped up his side’s 17th win in their last 20 league games to put them 10 points clear at the top with 12 games remaining.

Kane is able for ruthless Spurs

Frustrated by their surprise midweek Europa League exit against Gent, Tottenham took their frustrations out on Stoke as Harry Kane once again demonstrated his lethal finishing. After scoring a crucial own goal in the Gent upset, Kane was back on form with a first half treble at White Hart Lane. Kane blitzed Stoke with goals in the 14th, 32nd and 37th minutes to notch his third hat-trick in his last nine appearances. Kane has 12 goals in 11 games in all competitions since the start of 2017 and 22 goals in all competitions this season, the third consecutive campaign in which he has surpassed 20 goals. Dele Alli got Tottenham’s fourth, set up by Kane inevitably, as they moved up to second place.

Allardyce still a firefighter

Sam Allardyce is known for helping teams avoid relegation from the Premier League but even the former England manager’s reputation as a football escapologist appeared to be wearing thing at Crystal Palace. However, a first home league win for the Eagles under Allardyce – a 1-0 success against fellow drop rivals Middlesbrough on Saturday, has turned the battle at the bottom into a “seven-team league” in his words.  For all his outward bluster, it is Allardyce’s ability to remain composed in a battle to beat the drop that may prove vital to Palace’s hopes of remaining in the top flight – he did his best to calm anxious Palace fans by writing in his programme notes that the Eagles were “not up to the stage of must-win games just yet”.

Schneiderlin makes his mark

A player whose game you know well from time at a previous club can prove a double-edged sword for a manager. John McGovern played for several clubs under Brian Clough before lifting the European Cup when the celebrated English boss was in charge of Nottingham Forest but there have been plenty of examples were a reunion has not proved so fruitful. But the fact that Morgan Schneiderlin is now back alongside Ronald Koeman at Everton could yet prove beneficial for the Merseysiders. Having played for the Dutch manager at Southampton, he failed to impose himself at Manchester United but his control of midfield during a 2-0 win at home to struggling Sunderland – a side managed by former Everton boss David Moyes and featuring several ex Toffees players – allowed Idrissa Gueye to get forward and offer useful support up front to central striker Romelu Lukaku.

To Hull and back

Leading 1-0 with just 18 minutes left against a Burnley side who had taken only one away league point all season, it looked like Hull were on course to secure a valuable win in their fight for survival. Tom Huddlestone’s penalty, awarded for Michael Keane’s handball, had put Marco Silva’s team on the verge of a third successive home win in the Premier League for the first win in their history. But Burnley were fuelled by a sense of injustice over the spot-kick, which they felt shouldn’t have been given because Hull’s Harry Maguire pushed Keane towards the ball. And fittingly it was Keane who made amends when he blasted in the equaliser four minutes later. In the blink of an eye, the Tigers dropped from 16th in the provisional table back down to 19th.

EPL: Spurs up to second as Kane treble crushes Stoke

Harry Kane hit a first-half hat-trick as Tottenham stormed up to second in the Premier League with a 4-0 home demolition of Stoke on Sunday.
Kane’s treble took his tally to 17 league goals this season, while his first of the day at White Hart Lane was his 100th club goal.
The England forward, 23, who also scored three against Fulham in the FA Cup a week ago, capped an outstanding all-round display by setting up Dele Alli for the fourth.
That helped Alli to draw a line under his dismissal against Gent that contributed to Spurs’ Europa League exit on Thursday.
Tottenham’s victory took them above Manchester City and closed the gap on runaway leaders Chelsea to 10 points.
“It’s true that today Kane was fantastic, a hat-trick and a fantastic performance. He’s one of the best strikers in Europe and I’m very pleased for him because he deserves it,” Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino said.
“He has big potential to improve, he’s still very young. He works hard every day, he’s professional.”
The damaging failure to beat Gent marked the latest disappointment for Spurs in a frustrating month that also saw their title challenge fade significantly.
The challenge confronting Pochettino’s side was to produce a performance and result that would help put the midweek embarrassment behind them.
It quickly became clear this game would provide the ideal platform for Spurs and Alli to redeem themselves after a testing 72 hours of soul-searching.
Within three minutes Christian Eriksen had flashed a shot across the face of goal, provoking an angry reaction from Pochettino, who was infuriated at the Dane’s failure to pick out a better-placed team-mate.
The manager need not have worried. Stoke could barely manage to rouse themselves and after Joe Allen hit the side netting for the visitors, Kane produced the 14th-minute opening goal that put the home side firmly in control.

– Ruthless Kane –

The chance came when Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross failed to clear Eriksen’s threaded pass, but Kane’s finish was ruthless, with the striker latching onto the loose ball and producing a first-time shot that flew across keeper Lee Grant.
The technique Kane demonstrated in claiming his second in the 32nd minute was even better.
Eriksen’s right-wing corner was played out to Kane, who had positioned himself on the edge of the area, where he hit the bouncing ball on the full, left-footed, inside Grant’s right-hand post.
Prior to that, Stoke threatened when Peter Crouch slid in to meet Erik Pieters’ low cross, only to be denied by the boot of Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris, while Charlie Adam collected a booking for a foul on Alli.
But their response quickly faded and Tottenham’s third came when Adam again fouled Alli to concede a free-kick 30 yards out.
Eriksen rolled the ball to Kane, whose low shot deflected off the defensive wall, wrong-footing Grant and securing the striker’s hat-trick.
Stoke boss Mark Hughes was clearly angered by his side’s display but worse was to come in first-half stoppage time when Kane out-paced Bruno Martins-Indi on the right and burst into the box before squaring for Alli, who slid in for the fourth.
Injury to Toby Alderweireld at the start of the second half provided Spurs’ first setback of the game, while the sight of Kane colliding with a post was also a momentary cause for concern.
That aside, the only frustration for Spurs and Kane was that they failed to add to their first-half tally, with Grant producing an excellent save to deny the striker his fourth goal.

Rivers APC rejects rerun results

Chukwudi Akasike, Port Harcourt
THE Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress kicked against the declaration of results of Saturday’s supplementary rerun election in Etche by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Elections were held for Etche State Constituency seat of the House of Assembly and the Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency seat, which were won by the Peoples Democratic Party.
But the state APC argued that since the Returning Officers, Prof. Olatunbosun Odusanya and Prof. Omotola had declared the election inconclusive, it was wrong for INEC to have gone ahead to declare any result.
A statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Finebone said, “The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress recalls that yesterday’s (Saturday) supplementary rerun elections for Etche State Constituency and Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency were formally declared inconclusive by the Returning Officers, Prof. Olatunbosun Odusanya and Prof. Omotola respectively at Okehi,Saturday.
“They subsequently announced that the conclusion of the process will take place today (Sunday) or on Monday. However, we are taken aback by signals indicating that the National Electoral Commissioner in charge, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, has ordered that the incomplete results be declared despite the earlier declaration by the two Returning Officers on Saturday at Okehi that the elections were inconclusive.
“It is pertinent to remind INEC that in line with the relevant section of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), it is only the returning officers that are empowered to announce results of elections and not the National Electoral Commissioner, the Resident Electoral Commissioner or any other,” the state APC stressed.
It maintained that declaring results of elections that had earlier been announced as inconclusive would amount to a “gross” violation of INEC’s rules and demonstrate the height of inconsistency and illegality on the part of the commission.
“We urge INEC to proceed to conclude the elections without further delay before declaring the results accordingly,” the state APC added...source: punchng.com

Ajaokuta will help Nigeria save $5 billion from importation

Ajaokuta-steel-plant
The Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Abubakar Bwari, on Tuesday said revival of Ajaokuta Steel Company would save about $5 billion annually for the country.
He said that the amount was usually spent annually on the importation of equipment for railway expansion and maintenance.
Mr. Bwari stated this during the 2016 budget performance assessment of the ministry before the House of Representatives Committee on Steel, in Abuja.
He said that the steel company had the capacity to generate 100,000 direct and 500,000 indirect employment opportunities in downstream and upstream industries.
“I will not conclude the presentation to this honourable committee without re-emphasising the benefits that a functional steel sector will have on the recessed Nigerian economy.
“For the construction industry, imports of over 4 million tons of rolled steel products and over 12 million tons of other steel products at the present rate will stop, leading to savings of several billions in foreign currency per annum.
“In the transport (rail) sector, with rail track production in ASCL, more than 5 billion dollars imports of rail for railway expansion and maintenance will be saved per annum.
“Likewise, in the transportation (road) sector, availability of flat sheets, spares for automobile industries will significantly reduce foreign exchange,” he said.
The minister also stated that reviving the steel company would reduce unemployment and increase technology acquisition among other benefits.
Giving update on the modified concession agreement between Federal Government and Messrs GINL/GSHL, Mr.Bwari disclosed that due diligence was concluded in October, 2016.
He added that stakeholders were in constant meeting with the concessionaire to address the issues of logistics and completion of other relevant schedules of settlement agreement.
Mr. Bwari also stated that the collaboration of the ministry with its Transportation counterpart for the development of Central Rail Corridor through Itakpe and Ajaokuta was to increase economic activities in the sector.
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman, Committee on Steel, Lawal Idirisu, said that budget performance appraisal of ministries and agencies was to ensure accountability in governance.
“It would enable members and stakeholders to have firsthand information on how well the funds appropriated to each ministry, department and agency had been utilised.
“It is important to state here that today’s budget performance assessment will certainly guide the committee in taking informed decisions.
“The decisions are in respect of agencies we need to visit before the 2017 budget defence.
“At this juncture, I wish to assure you that the committee will not leave any stone unturned in the cause of achieving its goals,” he said.
