Project Report - Project Report - Consumer Preference of Washing Machine and Refreigrator, Consumers purchase decision of Washing Machines and Refreigrator, Consumer views of After sale services, Strategies used by companies to attract new customers of Washing Machines and Refreigrator
Three Parts:Getting Started Narrowing Down Your Choices Ensuring Originality Questions and Answers
Choosing a topic for a school project can be the hardest part of the
whole task. It’s easy to spend hours feeling overwhelmed by all of the
possibilities or, on the other hand, by the sense that you have no ideas
to work with. With some planning and thinking ahead, however, you can
come up with a strong topic that suits the assignment and your personal
interests.
Part 1
Getting Started
Understand the assignment. As with any work your
teacher assigns you, you want to know what is expected of you with
regard to the project before you sit down to decide on a topic.
Understanding the project is key for picking a topic that will meet the
teacher’s requirements and keep you from getting frustrated as you work.
If the teacher has provided an assignment sheet, read it over with a
pen or highlighter in hand and mark important details pertaining to the
types of topic you may choose, the length of the presentation (if any),
materials, sources required, etc. Pay attention to the due date as
well—you don’t want to spend days working on a project only to run out
of time before you finish!
Write down any questions or concerns with the project assignment and
ask your teacher (or, if you’re on a tight deadline and the teacher is
unavailable, ask a reliable classmate). Be as specific as possible with
your questions. For example, instead of saying, “I don’t understand the
presentation,” you can say, “I don’t understand how the presentation is
supposed to be formatted.” The latter example is much more likely to get
you a clear explanation of what you are supposed to do.
2
Determine what you hope to learn. If you do a project
“just to get it done” or “because you have to,” you’re less likely to
enjoy it and less likely do your best work. Instead, try looking at the
project as an opportunity to increase your skills, knowledge, and
ability.[1]
Think about areas where you skills could use improvement and whether
there things you’d like to or need to learn. How about areas where
you’ve shown some weakness? It’s very common to shy away from working in
areas that we don’t consider our strongest, but that can often be a
mistake, as it keeps us from building ourselves up in those areas and
widening our range of talents.
3
Brainstorm ideas. Get out a piece of paper and a
pen/pencil or open a blank document on your computer and set a timer for
5 minutes (don’t worry if 5 minutes isn’t long enough—you can always go
longer if you need to). Then start the timer and write down every idea
that comes into your mind with regard to your project assignment—words,
phrases, sentences, whatever.
Write it all down! There are no good or bad ideas in brainstorming.[2] Every idea is an essential element of finding the right topic for your project. So don’t judge what you’re writing…just write!
You’re going for a wide array of ideas as you brainstorm, so don’t be too focused or specific just yet.[3]
Remember—write down everything that comes to mind. Even if it seems
kind of “out there,” just get it out. You’ll be able to get rid of or
rethink ideas later on. Right now the task is just getting stuff down on
paper.
If you work better with other people, enlist the help of a friend or
family member in your brainstorming session. Make sure you tell him/her
what is required by the assignment sheet (or let them read it), then
trade ideas back and forth. This process will naturally take longer than
a five-minute solo brainstorming session, but it can yield great
results.
If you’re the technological type, there are a variety of free online
tools, such as Bubbl.us and Popplet, that help with brainstorming.[4]
Tips
Projects done with a partner or in a group can be rewarding but also
challenging. Because group work involves more than one set of opinions
and ideas, the project will benefit from a wider range of creativity
when choosing a topic. But it’s also easy to fall into conflict when
members can’t agree on a topic or have very distinct interests. If you
find yourself having trouble coming up with a topic as a group, you may
need to spend some extra time finding areas of interest that overlap.
Consider talking with others in your class about their project
topics. This might help you generate ideas of your own. Be careful
though—you don’t want to use an idea that is too similar to or seems
derivative of someone else’s.
Remember that your teacher is an important resource for assisting in
project topic selection; you shouldn’t hesitate to run potential topic
ideas past him or her once you have a few good ones in mind.
You may have to do another project in the future for a similar
assignment, so hold on to your original list of topics—it may come in
handy.

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has detected ghost workers on its payroll after ordering the workers to line up and collect their salaries in cash.
Investigations by our correspondent
showed that the precarious financial situation of the party forced its
leadership to take the action.
It was gathered that the National
Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, was worried about the huge
salary bill of the workers and decided to take action aiming at
ascertaining the actual number of workers at the party’s national
secretariat in Abuja.
Sheriff was said to have inherited about N872m debt when he assumed office about a month ago.
Worried by this, Sheriff was said to
have taken members of the National Workers Committee by surprise when on
Thursday he directed the workers to get their salaries in cash.
A management employee, who spoke with
our correspondent on Sunday, said that they were surprised when they
(the workers) were directed to assemble inside the National Executive
Committee hall at the national secretariat.
He said, “Sheriff has started the restructuring of the PDP for efficient and effective performance.
“March 24 will ever be a day to remember
in our party. On that day, as early as 11am, the NWC and members of
staff of the PDP, under the instruction of our national chairman, moved
into the conference hall.
“The chairman also joined everyone in
the hall. And to the surprise of all, the business of the day was the
payment of staff salaries, which was done department after department.
“One after the other, after individual’s
physical verification of each file and identity, thereafter you are
then paid your salary in cash.”
The exercise was chaired by the national
chairman who directed the National Treasurer, Mr. Buhari Bala, to call
the workers by their departments.
Another management worker said, “Names
of all the workers were called according to their departments and once
you heard your name, you would come out to collect your salary by hand.
“This order was followed by the national treasurer and some employees of the Finance Department, who assisted him.
“All heads of departments were on the ground to observe the exercise.
“So, when a name was called, the person
came out and his/her file was opened for verification before cash was
paid to such a worker.
“And at about 6:30pm, the chairman left
the hall to attend to other meetings, while the national treasurer
continued to call the names of employees.
“In the absence of the national
chairman, he called four departments, amongst them were the Youth
Department and Security Department.”
Before calling the security staff on the list submitted, Bala was said to have complained that the list was too lengthy.
It was gathered that Bala realised during the payment that the security department had what he described as ghost
workers and security personnel, as the names of policemen called were
those who had left the service of the PDP immediately after the
resignation of the then National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, about
two years ago.
Some of the workers at the national secretariat had called on Sheriff to set up a panel to investigate those behind the scam.
One of them said, “The outcome of what happened on Thursday was an indication that salaries of those ghost workers were being collected by someone over the years.
“Ghost workers were also discovered in the other departments.”
It was gathered that seven policemen, who had left the party more than two years ago, were still being paid.
The affected policemen (names withheld) comprise of a DSP, an ASP, two inspectors, one sergeant and two corporals.
One of the police officers, who left the
party some years ago, was posted to the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, but was still collecting salaries from the PDP or someone
was collecting it on his behalf without his knowledge.
It was gathered that the pays included N12,000 allowance for conventional policemen and N30,000 for riot policemen.
It was also gathered that personal staff
of past national chairmen, majority of whom had defected to other
political parties, were still being paid by the party.
“If this isn’t true, then someone is
collecting their salaries without their knowledge. A proper external
audit of the members of staff must be conducted. Then the party must
investigate those who have been collecting the salaries of these ghost
workers,” another source added.
Bala, who confirmed the exercise, told our correspondent that the national chairman ordered the action.
He also said that some fictitious names were discovered during the exercise.
The lingering foreign exchange
scarcity, which has made it difficult for foreign airlines to repatriate
their ticket sales proceeds for several months, has forced the carriers
to increase their fares by about 100 per cent, OLAWUNMI OJO writes
Foreign exchange risk is now a major
component of airfares on Nigerian routes, the country managers of top
foreign airlines have revealed.
Investigation by our correspondent
revealed that the airlines operating on international routes in the
country had increased airfares by as much as 100 per cent as a result of
the development.
A survey of all the major Nigerian
routes flown by the foreign airlines in the country showed that the cost
of return tickets had been increased by between 80 per cent and 120 per
cent of the previous fares, depending on the carrier, time of booking
and the season.
The survey cuts across Nigeria-North
America routes, Nigeria-South Africa route, and Nigeria-Europe routes.
Airfares on the Lagos-London, Abuja-London, Lagos-New York,
Lagos-Atlanta, Lagos-Houston, and Lagos-Johannesburg routes were
examined.
Findings also showed that local airlines
operating international flights, especially Arik Air and MedView
Airlines, had increased their airfares.
For instance, airfares on the
Lagos-London and Abuja-London routes now cost an average of N380,000 for
the economy class seat, as against the average of N200,000 a year ago
on the British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways. This represents an
increase of 111 per cent.
Similarly, on Air France, an economic
ticket on the Lagos/Abuja-London routes now goes for about N360,000,
while Lufthansa German Airlines charges N380,000. These represent an
increase of 80 per cent and 90 per cent, respectively, when compared
with an average fare of N200,000 on the routes a year ago.
A Business Class ticket now goes for as high as N3m as against the N1.5m a year ago on the Lagos-London route.
On the Lagos-Atlanta and Lagos-Houston
routes, Delta Airlines and United Airlines, which used to fly Economy
Class passengers for between N270,000 and N330,000 some 12 months ago,
now render the same service at an average fare of N600,000, depending on
the time of booking. This represents an increase of about 100 per cent.
South Africa Airways and Arik Air, which
used to fly the Lagos-Johannesburg routes for between N100,000 and
N120,000 for the economy class, now fly the route for between N180,000
and N220,000, depending on the time of booking and the season.
The Lagos-Paris route, which used to go
for N180,000 on the average, now goes for around N400,000. This
represents an increase of 120 per cent.
Operators link the increment in fares to
the scarcity of foreign exchange to attend to the operational needs of
the carriers and the erosion in the value of the ticket sales proceeds,
which are now stuck in banks due to lack of forex to repatriate the
funds.
Late last year, the new administration
of President Muhammadu Buhari had unveiled a fiscal policy, through the
Central Bank of Nigeria, restricting access to foreign exchange and
funds transfer out of the country.
While this has had advantages for some
sectors of the economy, foreign airline operators have complained of
their inability to repatriate revenue to their operational bases as a
result of the new policy.
An official of one the airlines told our
correspondent that the carrier had close to N90bn as accumulated
earnings in banks, which it had been unable to repatriate.
He said that the airline industry relied
heavily on cash to meet its commitments, adding that it was sad that
the government was not seeing things this way.
With huge airline revenue in the vaults
of the banks, some of the operators nursed fears of being exposed to
risks should the pressure on the naira lead to the devaluation of the
currency, which could erode the value of the funds by about 35 per cent
to 45 per cent.
Following the difficulty in repatriating
earnings from Nigeria, some of the airlines initially began restricting
cheap fares on the Nigerian routes in the last quarter of last year,
leading to an indirect hike in fares.
At the time, the effect was felt more on
second tier routes from Lagos-London-Atlanta, Lagos-London-New York,
Lagos-London-Miami, Lagos-London-São Paulo, Lagos-London-Houston; or
Lagos-Frankfurt-New York, Lagos-Frankfurt-Chicago, Lagos-Frankfurt-Los
Angeles, and Lagos-Frankfurt-Shanghai.
Citing Nigeria’s slowing economy amid
forex scarcity, some international airlines are now contemplating
reducing flights to the country or operating smaller capacity aircraft
as a short-term measure.
However, following complaints by the
airlines, representatives of the International Air Transport Association
are said to have pleaded with the CBN Governor, Godwin Emiefele, to
intervene in the matter and make dollars available to them.
But the move has yet to yield any positive results.
The foreign airlines also reportedly met
with the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, and urged him to
look into their case.
A spokesperson for one of the airlines
noted that the difficulty in repatriating revenues was affecting
aircraft leases and fuelling, stating that the earnings were partly
being used for fuel and renewing aircraft leases.
While the situation persists, the effect
on air travellers and other businesses that depend so much on air
travel has been immense.
A manager with a transport and logistic
firm, Mr. Emmanuel Iruobe , said the company had incurred more costs
than were provided for in the execution of most contracts this year.
Iruobe urged the government to look into the situation with a view to resolving it in the interest of Nigerians.
On their part, stakeholders in the
travel industry under the aegis of the National Association of Nigeria
Travel Agencies have faulted the astronomical cost of air tickets by the
airlines, especially the foreign carriers.
Describing the situation where taxes
that go to the airlines are higher than base fares as unacceptable, the
group has petitioned the Federal Government, through the Ministry of
Aviation, to caution the foreign airlines over the alleged sharp
practices.
The Publicity Secretary, NANTA, Mrs.
Ngozi Ngoka, opined that the cumulative effect of taxes and surcharges
by airlines also generated a final price to the passenger that could be
as much as double the advertised airfare for a short-haul flight.
Another stakeholder, who is the Chief
Executive Officer, Gadshire Travels, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, berated the
airlines, describing the excuse of forex scarcity and multiple taxes
given to increase fares as untenable.
According to him, the arbitrary
increment and gap between what is charged in Nigeria and other African
countries on the same routes are due to the failure of regulatory
authorities to perform their duties.
The South-South and the South-East
chapters of the All Progressives Congress have supported the criticism
of the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu by the APC National
Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The South-South APC advised the minister to resign if he was incapable of doing his job.
This was contained in a statement signed
by the party’s National Vice-Chairman, South South, Hilliard Eta, a
copy of which was made available to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday.
The statement entitled, “No split in
APC: Tinubu right to critique Kachikwu,” the National Vice-Chairman said
it was the opinion of the South-South chapter of the party that
Kachikwu had yet to purge himself of his Peoples Democratic Party’s
orientation.
Kachikwu, who hails from the
South-South, had in an interview with journalists in Abuja on
Wednesday, said fuel queues could not be eliminated with a magic wand.
He said that despite government’s
efforts, fuel queues would remain in the country in the next two months,
adding that he was not a magician.
Supporting Tinubu, Eta said, “The
South-South Chapter of the All Progressives Congress feels that Kachikwu
has not entirely cast off the orientation of the Peoples Democratic
Party, where he was and this is manifest in his actions and utterances
such as the recent one that attracted opprobrium from many Nigerians.
“Mr. Kachikwu must not be a cog in the
wheel of progress and he should do the needful by resigning honourably
if he is not capable of doing his part by effectively running the
ministry assigned to him.”
The party chieftain noted that the
minister, as a member of the President’s cabinet with a very important
office, “it is incumbent on him to shed his haughtiness and climb down
from his high horse to face his duties squarely.”
According to Eta, Tinubu’s observation
about the utterances of the minister is in line with the core ideology
of progressivism which the APC espouses as it is the very foundation on
which the party rests.
Eta said, “This progressive ideology
strongly emphasises government as a tool for service to the people who
are the custodians of power in the first instance.
“In line with this, it is not wrong or
out of place for Tinubu to caution the Minister of State for Petroleum,
Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, owing to the anti-progressive statements he made in
the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, while fielding
questions from journalists on the persisting scarcity of petrol.”
The South-South leader of the APC said Tinubu’s critique of the minister did not amount to a split in the APC.
He observed that if anything, it had
further strengthened the commitment of the party and the government it
had formed to be fully accountable to Nigerians.
It will be recalled that Tinubu had
taken exceptions to comments made by the minister with regards to the
lingering fuel crisis in the country.
Also speaking on the issue, the South-East Chapter of the party stated that Tinubu had voiced the frustrations of Nigerians.
The South-East Zonal spokesman for the party, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, said this in a telephone interview with The PUNCH, in Abuja on Sunday.
He explained that Tinubu’s democratic credentials and his commitment to the Nigerian project were not in doubt.
Okechukwu, however, said calls for
Kachikwu’s resignation in some quarters were hasty in the light of the
realities on the ground.
He said, “Our National Leader, Asiwaju
Ahmed Tinubu, re-echoed the anger of the Nigerian people about the
current situation we have found ourselves with regards to the shortage
of petrol.
“We have been privileged to have
attended the recent meeting the President held with stakeholders in the
oil and gas sector where he outlined his policies and programmes with
regards to how he intends to deal with the problem.
“It was part of his commitment to
resolving these issues that made him (the President) take up the
responsibility of the Minister of Petroleum.
“He has visited Saudi Arabia and Qatar
and he has made a personal commitment to supporting private sector
investment in the sector. Having this as a background, we wish to state
that calls for Kachikwu to resign are hasty at this point.”
Godwin Isenyo, Kaduna
The Nigerian Army in Kaduna on Monday offered a N1m reward for useful
information that could lead to the rescue of its abducted officer,
Col. Samaila Inusa.
The Nigerian Army through the General Officer Commanding,
One-Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Maj-Gen. Adeniyi
Oyebade had earlier on Sunday evening offered anyone with such
information with N500,000.
The Army said it would provide anyone who volunteered useful
information with adequate protection and gave the assurance that the
information would be treated confidentially.
On Monday, while briefing journalists, the Spokesman of the
One-Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Col. Abdul Usman, increased
the cash award to N1m.
Col. Inusa, who is serving with the Nigerian Army School of Infantry,
Jaji, near Kaduna State was abducted at gunpoint around Kamazo, along
Kaduna Refinery Junction in Chikun Local Government of Kaduna State on
Saturday night by yet-to-be identified gunmen.
The officer was whisked away, towards Abuja, in his Mercedes-Benz car by his abductors, who dropped off his wife. Read more: Army colonel abducted in Kaduna
The incident occurred barely one week after three clerics were abducted along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.
The President of the United Church of Christ in Nigeria, Rev.
Emmanuel Dziggau, along with his Vice President, Rev. Iliya Anto, and
one Rev. Yakubu Zarma were abducted by gunmen along the Kaduna – Abuja
Express Way on Monday.
The abductors, numbering six were masked and armed with AK47 rifles;
and demanded for a N100 million ransom. The ransom was later reduced to
N80 million, according to family source.
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose,
has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to go beyond apologising to
Nigerians by correcting some flawed policies and steps his
administration has taken since assuming office.
He also urged the President to stop
seeing himself as a sectional leader or the president of the All
Progressives Congress but as the leader of all groups and people of the
country.
Fayose, according to a statement by his
Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, on Sunday, however, commended
the President for admitting some errors his government had made.
The governor also advised the President
to be wary of some selfish persons in the APC who were bent on using his
name to commit atrocities in the name of politics.
The statement read, “This is a moment of
truth. I commend the President for being bold enough to apologise for
his lapses. He has come out to admit and accept that criticism is part
of democracy. He can do whatever he likes, but it must be within the
ambit of the law.
“The President has swallowed his pride
by admitting that there is a sharp drop in electricity and that we are
experiencing an agonising fuel scarcity in the country. They told us the
refineries are working, but that is a lie, we are still importing fuel.
“The President cannot continue to apologise for everything. A leader must think very well before making policy statements.”
Fayose called on the President to find a
lasting solution to the lingering fuel scarcity, address job losses and
to pay attention to security issues, rather than exerting energy on
silencing the opposition.
“Look at the Agatu killings. That place
is a food basket for the country and when herdsmen went on the rampage,
destroying lives and property, we should not fold arms,” he said.
Fayose also condemned the manner elections were conducted under the present regime.
He said the legacy of credible elections left behind by former President Goodluck Jonathan had been destroyed.
He added, “It is an understatement to
describe the elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Rivers states by the Buhari
administration as a show of shame. This is an aspect where the President
has to be very careful. He must not allow himself to be used by some
rejected and crooked politicians.”
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the APC in the
state, Olusegun Osinkolu, has advised Fayose to face governance and
stop attacking the President.
Osinkolu said President Buhari had been working assiduously to make tremendous impact.
He said it was appalling for Fayose to abandon governance for frivolities.
He urged him to stop dissipating energy on Buhari in the interest of the people.
While addressing his supporters in Ayede
Ekiti on Sunday, Osinkolu commended the National Leader of the APC,
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for cautioning the Minister of State for Petroleum,
Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on how to address Nigerians on the issue of fuel
scarcity.
While also calling for the dissolution
of the state working committee of the APC in Ekiti State ahead of the
2018 governorship election, the former senatorial aspirant alleged that
the Chief Jide Awe-led SWC was handpicked
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency
has discovered a letter packed with heroin at a post office in Lagos.
It has also arrested the receiver of the letter, 33-year-old Yunusa
Amusan.
The letter, which was sent from
Bengaluru, India, through Express Mail Service, was addressed to Amusan
who resides in Mushin in Lagos.
A statement by NDLEA’s head of Public
Affairs, Mitchell Ofoyeju, stated that upon interception, the agency
found powdery substances weighing about 480grammes that tested positive
for heroin inside the letter.
It disclosed that the thin parcels of heroin were carefully hidden in the letter in a manner that made it difficult to detect.
According to Ofoyeju, this was the first case of heroin letter discovered by the anti-narcotic agency this year.
The Chairman/Chief Executive, NDLEA,
Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.) was quoted as saying that the
arrest was recorded following the diversification of the Agency’s
operations.
“The operations of the Agency have been
diversified to cover mail services. Drug control is an intelligence-led
operation and the NDLEA, under my dispensation, will spread its
tentacles to all possible areas of narcotic smuggling. We will not
relent in taking deliberate and sustained efforts towards preventing
drug trafficking under any guise in the country whether by air, land or
water,” Abdallah stated.
The NDLEA boss added that investigation
revealed that the suspect, who is in custody, allegedly connived with
his uncle who lives in India to import heroin disguised as letters to
Nigeria.
He said their plan was exposed due to superior intelligence gathering capacity of the Agency.
He assured Nigerians that the Agency would always work towards a drug-free society.
The statement further quoted the
Director of Operations and General Investigation, NDLEA, Mr. Mabo
Olugbenga, as saying that the suspect was apprehended following
surveillance report on his illicit drug activities.
“The illicit smuggling of narcotic drugs
under the guise of letters was reported and closely monitored by the
agency,” Olugbenga said.
“It was confirmed that Amusan was
recruited by his uncle who lives in India to take delivery of heroin
concealed in letters to avoid arrest by law enforcement agents. The
suspect was arrested after collecting the letter and further
investigation is on-going.”
This is not the best of times for the Gospel-Tungba creator, Yinka
Ayefele as he has lost one of his band boys in a lone fatal accident
along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to reports, the truck conveying the band’s musical
equipment ran into a ditch around 10pm Saturday night on the ever-busy
expressway.
The driver, while attempting to handle the impact, swerved off the
road and crashed the truck, leading to the death of one of his band
boys, while others in the truck also suffered various degrees of
injuries.
Both the dead and the injured victims were moved to University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan.
The ace music maestro revealed the news of the unfortunate incident on Sunday.
The band later tried to remove the truck with a crane.
In 1997, the ‘Bitter Experience’ singer was involved in terrible
automobile accident which damaged his spinal cord and confined him to a
wheelchair.
Visitors of the Latter Rain Assembly, who visited the prison on
Easter Friday to donate some items to the prison and encourage the
prisoners, were treated to an exciting performance by the band.
The band leader while explaining what the group is set out to do said
coming together was a way of adding value to themselves, as they
complete their prison term.
Keeping themselves engaged with music will help them live positively and
avoid bad association, while also helping with depression.
Their initiative is a good one. It will surely serve as a catalyst for other better things in the future.
Nigeria’s elder statesman and respected lawyer, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite
is dead. He died this morning at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos after a
brief illness.
Braithwaite was 82.
In 1979, Braithwaite founded the National Advance Party for the
Second Republic politics , with the aim of wiping out the cockroaches
and mosquitoes in Nigeria’s politics.
The Federal Government has been urged to constitute a panel to
investigate the alleged fraud levelled against the Rector of Yaba
College of Technology (YABATECH), Dr. Margaret Ladipo.
The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) made the call in a letter to
Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education. The CLO said that it
actively participated and cooperated with the panel of investigators and
submitted a memorandum to the federal government’s committee that
probed the alleged financial impropriety in December 2015.
In the letter signed by Comrade Igho Akeregha, CLO’s President, the
group expressed disappointment in what it called the long wait since
December 2015 and expressed fears that the probe may be abandoned like
past probes. The group said it is aware that the report was submitted to
the Minister of Education and wondered why nothing had been heard since
the submission of the report.
The letter read in part, “The CLO was informed that the panel had
submitted its recommendations and it is on the table of the Honourable
Minister of Education for necessary
action.
“Having waited for months without words from government, the CLO is
by this letter appealing to you to please do the needful so the staff
(whistle blowers), who exposed the massive corruption within the system,
are not abandoned to suffer for upholding integrity as they have been
victimised and dismissed by the embattled Rector.
“We also have on good authority that as the delay lingers, records of
the crime are being obliterated and more acts of financial haemorrhage
and brigandage are also being perpetrated while both the whistle blowers
and the nation suffer incalculable damage. Justice delayed is justice
denied,” it noted.

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), Kogi State University,
Anyigba, in Kogi State, has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state
government to pay the five months backlog of salaries owe its members
after which they would enforce the principle of “No pay, no work.”
The union noted that while it was against corruption in any form,
paying its members outstanding salaries would enable them continue the
war against corruption without any hindrance.
Dr Daniel Aina, the Chairman of ASUU, KSU, Anyigba, lamented that
ASUU members could no longer feed, transport themselves to work and pay
their children’s school fees among others.
According to him, the state government had, in the last five months,
failed to pay the lecturers their salary, saying the academic staff of
the institution had been living in a precarious economic situation where
they can no longer meet their basic needs.
His words: “No forms of corruption in extorting money from students
could be allowed under any guise in KSU, but we know that a hungry man
is more prone to corruptive tendencies. Therefore it is no longer
acceptable that our members continue to work with five months backlog of
unpaid salaries.
“The union has given the state government 21 days to pay all the
outstanding salaries and to ensure that henceforth no salary is delayed
more than seven days from the end of the preceding month, failure will
result in “no pay, no work.”
The ASUU chairman stated that the best that could be done to
forestall negative attitudes from members was for the state government
to pay their salaries as at when due to guarantee free corrupt
institution.

National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday ruled the Minister of State for Petroleum
Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, out of order for saying he should not be
expected to conjure magic in resolving the current fuel crisis in the
country.
He said the minister strayed from the progressive calling required of
the Buhari administration by making the statement attributed to him.
Kachikwu who doubles as Group Managing Director of the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) had said, in reaction to public
criticism of his handling of the fuel scarcity, that Nigerians should
count themselves fortunate that the NNPC under his stewardship has been
able to bring in the amount of fuel it is currently doing.
Tinubu, in a statement, threw in his lot with Nigerians who, according
to him, were “as right to feel insulted as the minister was wrong to
have said such a thing.”
He said those charged with the responsibility of running the affairs
of the country should learn to do things creatively and away from past
practices.
His words: “The art of governance is difficult and complex,
especially during trying times. The steep reduction in global oil prices
from over 100 dollars per barrel to roughly 40 presents a hard
challenge. “We can no longer afford past practices.
Nigeria now requires creative reform, materially changing the
substance of national economic policy as well as the objectives of that
policy and how the policy is presented to the people.
Therein lies the essence of progressive democratic governance.
“The Buhari administration represents the last best hope we have to
install such governance in Nigeria and avert the catastrophe that would
have befallen us had the prior government remained in place. Had the
nation continued with the spendthrift corruption and vagabond economic
policies of that administration, we would have soon experienced such a
collision with the harsh consequences of that government’s malign ways
that our very institutions of government may have been distorted beyond
fixture and repair.”
Asiwaju Tinubu added, “In this effort, there may be no economic
matter more difficult to unravel and more sensitive to the purse of the
average person than the current fuel scarcity. Even here I am confident
of progress because I know the commitment of the president to resolving
this matter. I make no attempt to hide it. I am an avid and partisan
supporter of this government and of the progressive policies of the
party, the APC, upon which this government is based.
“With that I do reserve the right and the duty as a Nigerian to voice
my opinion when I believe a member of this government has strayed from
the progressive calling required of this administration. I do this
because my greater devotion and love are for this nation and its people.
Party and politics fall secondary.
“Much public ire has been drawn to the statement made by Minister of
State (Ibe Kachikwu) that he was not trained as a magician and that
basically Nigerians should count themselves fortunate that the NNPC
under his stewardship has been able to bring in the amount of petrol
fuel it is currently doing.
“Perhaps the statement by Kachikwu was made in a moment of unguarded
frustration or was an awkward attempt at a joke. Whatever the motive, it
was untimely and off-putting. The remark did not sit well with the
Nigerian people; they were as right to feel insulted as the minister was
wrong to have said such a thing.
“The fuel shortage is severely biting for the average person. They
are forced to remain in lines far too long, for too much time, to pay
too much money for too little fuel. This is no joking matter.
Livelihoods and people’s welfare are at stake. With so much on the line,
Kachikwu’s flippancy was out-of-line.
He was basically telling Nigerians that they should be lucky that
they are getting the inadequate supply they now suffer and that they
should just be quiet, and endure the shortage for several weeks more.
“Kachikwu’s intervention was unhelpful. It panicked and disappointed
the public as to the duration of the crisis. It insulted the people by
its tonality. He spoke with the imperious nature of a member of the
elitist government the people voted out last year and not the
progressive one they voted in.”
He reminded the minister “that he was not coerced to take this job.
He accepted the job and its responsibilities knowingly. He also must
remember that he does not own NNPC. This also is not a private company
that owes nothing to the public except the duty of fair dealing. He is a
public servant. The seat he sits upon is owned by Nigerians not by him.
The company he runs is owned by Nigerians not by him. They are his
boss. He is not theirs. Power is vested in the people. He is a mere
custodian or agent of their will. In talking to us in such a manner, he
committed an act of insubordination.
“If he had talked so cavalierly to his boss in the private sector, he
would have been reprimanded or worse. If wise, the man should refrain
from such interjections in the future.” Source: The Nation
