The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) made the call in a letter to Mallam Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education. The CLO said that it actively participated and cooperated with the panel of investigators and submitted a memorandum to the federal government’s committee that probed the alleged financial impropriety in December 2015.
In the letter signed by Comrade Igho Akeregha, CLO’s President, the group expressed disappointment in what it called the long wait since December 2015 and expressed fears that the probe may be abandoned like past probes. The group said it is aware that the report was submitted to the Minister of Education and wondered why nothing had been heard since the submission of the report.
The letter read in part, “The CLO was informed that the panel had submitted its recommendations and it is on the table of the Honourable Minister of Education for necessary
action.
“Having waited for months without words from government, the CLO is by this letter appealing to you to please do the needful so the staff (whistle blowers), who exposed the massive corruption within the system, are not abandoned to suffer for upholding integrity as they have been victimised and dismissed by the embattled Rector.
“We also have on good authority that as the delay lingers, records of the crime are being obliterated and more acts of financial haemorrhage and brigandage are also being perpetrated while both the whistle blowers and the nation suffer incalculable damage. Justice delayed is justice denied,” it noted.
